The Season of Lent
Tools to Grow Closer to Jesus Each Day
Lent is one of the traditional
seasons in the church year. It is the almost seven weeks (47
days) and is the season that comes before Easter. It is a time
of preparation to allow God to draw us closer to Him as we
prepare to celebrate the most holy days of Good Friday and the
Resurrection.
Many Christians engage in
special activities or use special tools during the Lenten season
to allow God to deepen our love relationship with Him. These
activities and tools are not magic. They are tools that place
us in a mindset or even a physical location where it is easier
to pray, to give thanks, and to listen to God. I want to
invite you to join me on a Lenten journey this year -- to grow
our hearts closer to God’s heart. Please choose a tool or two
to open your heart.
Worship weekly (not weakly) –
Our theme this season
is to study, Questions for Jesus.
Home Devotions –
Use Our Daily Bread or the
Devotions for children to set aside a time to read and pray
together as a family.
Carry a Nail –
Everyone is encouraged to carry
a nail in his/her pocket or purse as a daily reminder that Jesus
died in our places on the cross.
Prayer Journey on our Land –
By popular demand we
will be setting up another prayer opportunity, a time for
solitude on the our property on Cave Creek Road.
U
Philippians 4
– Don’t worry about anything…pray about everything.
Give Up Something Or Add
Something
U
Give Up
Something – give up a
certain pleasure to remind yourself of the life Jesus gave for
us;
U
Add Something –
(i.e., weekly
calling/visits to someone, thank-you notes) remind yourself of
Christ’s ultimate sacrifice Christ for you.
Let’s grow together to love
Christ more.
